Tucked away in a corner of Fortitude Valley, @joyrestaurant doesn’t rely on spectacle. Ten seats, one impossibly small kitchen, and chef @bulbfields that lets the food do all the talking. I was lucky to join thanks to @jenny_chau who managed the booking - a stroke of good fortune I won’t forget anytime soon.
From the very first snack, things were clear: you’re in safe hands here. The tuna, eggplant and chilli bite was exquisite, delicate but punchy. The lamb—cooked with the kind of precision that feels effortless but isn’t—was the kind of dish that silences a table. Every sip of the paired drinks landed just right.
There’s no flash here, just quiet confidence. It’s intimate and vibrant, but never trying too hard. And the little things—the Polaroid photo, the take-home biscuits—lifted the experience beyond the plate.
The ingredients weren’t extravagant, but what they created in that compact space was quietly extraordinary. With the number of courses, the generosity, and the care behind every dish, it’s indulgence that earns its place.
