When you’re in Asia and stumble into a little spot without an Instagram account, that’s usually your first sign you’re in for something real. Harvest Seafood in Singapore is exactly that. A couple of years ago, I ate somewhere nearby and told myself I’d come back, not just for the food, but for the views and the atmosphere.
We sat right on the Singapore River with the kind of view you only get in postcards: Marina Bay Sands glowing in the distance, the Fullerton Hotel to one side, and the Asian Civilisations Museum across the water. Humid night air, wine in hand, boats drifting past. It was one of those perfectly chaotic Singapore scenes. This is why I love travelling.
I came here for one thing and one thing only: Singapore Chilli Crab. And not just any crab, I went all in with a Sri Lankan mud crab cooked in that iconic, messy, fiery sauce that’s equal parts Singaporean and Malaysian pride. Of course, I needed mantou buns to mop up the sauce (arguably the best part) and threw in some black pepper prawns and greens for balance; or at least to convince myself I had balance after three cocktails and a round of fried snacks an hour earlier.
The space is small but lively. The staff were on point: quick with orders, refills without asking, and somehow keeping pace with the madness. The food arrived steaming, fragrant, and unapologetically bold. They respected the traditional flavours while adjusting the spice just how I like it; extra hot. The crab was meaty and rich, the sauce deep and layered, and the black pepper prawns hit with that sharp, savoury punch you chase long after the meal’s over. Even the presentation on point; that glossy red crab sitting proud, ready for the carnage.
If this was my last meal on earth, I’d die very, very happy.
