@clarence.restaurant has settled into its new Fish Lane digs nicely. Fairly casual yet confident. I dropped in for a quick dinner with a couple of friends. No tasting menu or long affair, just a few plates and good chat.

Let’s start with what might just be Brisbane’s best bar snack right now: the so-called ‘Singapore’ mud crab on a fried mantou. Tiny but absolutely bursting with flavour. That glossy, spicy-sweet sauce clings to the soft bun like it was made for it. If you go, don’t skip this. In fact, I’d happily come back for these alone.

My grass-fed scotch steak was shared unfortunately, with a friend who prefers it medium. Even then, the flavour held up beautifully. Rich, juicy, and properly seasoned. The duck fat potatoes alongside were golden perfection. Together, it was a winning combination.

Look I am not much of a dessert kinda guy and after that crab, nothing else stood a chance. So I did the only logical thing. I ordered another round of the mini crab buns. Zero regrets.
