Some restaurants you find, others find you. @mariposa.restaurant in Rhodes, Greece is one of those that feels like a story waiting to be told. The owner shared how it all began as a hobby, cooking for friends. Then came the “you should open a restaurant” chorus, and eventually, he and his wife did. She’s the chef, and she’s fearless. One morning, she decided she wanted to do things differently. “No potatoes in the moussaka,” she said. A bold stance in Greece, but now the locals line up for her creativity.

Dinner here is a gentle rebellion wrapped in charm. The seabass potato salad was bright and lemony. The seafood orzo was full of life, with grilled prawns and mussels stealing the show. But the mango chutney calamari, that was the star. Sweet, sharp, and unexpectedly perfect.

The moussaka was hands down the best I’ve ever had. The eggplant ravioli replacing the potato deserves its own fan club. And dessert was pistachio heaven; baklava, tiramisu, and ice cream for all those with a sweet tooth.

Dining at Mariposa feels like being let in on a secret. A place where tradition is respected but never allowed to get too comfortable. The sound of the ocean in the background doesn’t hurt either.
