I’ve been a frequent visitor to @honto.restaurant and I genuinely never leave disappointed. The dark, moody room still works for me. I am technically still in my thirties and can read the menu without a phone torch. Just. From a video or photo perspective though… absolutely horrendous lighting.
The upside is everything else. Service is warm, confident, and genuinely helpful. The team knows the menu inside out and is not shy about steering you towards dishes that make sense together. Always appreciated.
The food journey was strong from the start. The tuna tostada had a proper kick, with the crunch of the tostada playing beautifully against the fish. The tuna tataki was clean and well executed. Simple, tasty, and satisfying. Yellowfin tuna followed, fresh and bright. No fuss, just good fish treated well.
Then came the pork sando. I saw it land on another table, changed my plans immediately, and ordered it. Zero regrets. Comfort food done right.
Honto continues to do clever things with potatoes. The potato mochi was a standout. I am still mourning the loss of the Million Layer Potatoes, but this was genuinely tasty and unique, with that soft, bouncy mochi-like texture.
Wagyu brisket was beautiful. Eggplant was my favourite on the table. Mushrooms were lovely. Rice on the side, as it should be.
Bad lighting. Great food. Consistently so.
