Back at @supernormal_brisbane, this time without the opening buzz and with a bit more reality baked in.

The night started rough. Service was very slow. Close to an hour waiting, and not just our table. It felt like something had gone sideways in the kitchen and the room stalled with it. The response took a while, but when it came it was handled properly. A sincere apology and a cocktail on the house. Appreciated. These things happen, and how they’re handled matters.

Once the food landed, things turned around. The kimchi bread still hits the mark. Comforting, savoury, hard to stop picking at. The lamb pastry was a standout. Rich, flaky, and properly moreish. Chicken and prawn dumplings were excellent, delicate skins and good balance. The lobster roll remains solid and dependable, no surprises, just well done. Mushroom rice was fantastic. Deep, savoury, and quietly one of the best things on the table. The lamb shoulder this time leaned a bit too rich for me, though that’s often the nature of the dish rather than a flaw.

This visit felt like Supernormal finding its groove in Brisbane. Not perfect, but more confident in the food than the early days. When the kitchen is firing and the room is moving, it still delivers.
