Growing up with Sri Lankan family, "aunty" means one thing: unsolicited opinions delivered with a smile. Weight gain. Marriage. Babies. Timeline. This Aunty had none of that energy. Just good food, a full room on a Tuesday, and friendly service.

Located on Wandoo Street, Fortitude Valley, @auntyonwandoo is moody, warm, and a cool vibe. A full house midweek in Brisbane is always a good sign.

We went the banquet. Prawn toast arrived first and had actual prawn in it, which already put it ahead of most. Calamari was decent but a little oily, and back-to-back fried starters tested the palate. The cauliflower spring roll with mayo and miso was tasty, same caveat.

Then the beef tartare arrived and reset everything. Excellent. Clean and precise. The pressed wagyu skewer, added to the menu, was something else. Light soy glaze, mustard, eight hours of prep. You could taste the time in it.

The night belonged to the crab noodles. Creamy, deeply comforting, built with real intention. The chilli oils on the side deserve their own mention.

Dessert was a crunch bar: cashew against chocolate. Solid.

We left with a takeaway bag. Good value for what this room is delivering. The crab noodles. The wagyu skewer. I'll be thinking about both for a while.
